.
As “newcomers” to Onalaska (15 years), we have had opportunities to learn to know Mike Giese outside of the political arena. We have found him to be intelligent with a visionary approach to future challenges, such as the waterfront project in the city and issues related to sustainability and the environment.

He has the ability to size up challenging situations as well as being flexible and willing to consider the views of others. His leadership has been demonstrated by his six years on the council and as current chairman of the Plan Commission.

His management abilities were demonstrated in the positions he held in the University of Wisconsin-Madison laboratories. Mike also has expressed his openness to diversity, which will be important for the future of Onalaska as the population continues to increase.

He also can discern the abilities of others as seen in his earlier experiences teaching challenged youths and now volunteering to drive a church bus that provides transportation for those who would not be able to attend morning worship.

When one observes Mike interacting with his five grandchildren, one observes his dedication to family. Onalaska’s “newcomers” and “old-timers” are both fortunate to have a candidate for mayor with the qualities one finds in Mike Giese.
