Police and fire calls

The following log is based on reports from the Holmen and Onalaska police and fire departments.

Onalaska police

Monday, March 10

9:23 a.m. — Xcel Energy reported someone had attempted to break into the control house at the Mayfair subdivision on the 1300 block of Highway SS. Damage to the building’s door was estimated at $300. No entry was gained.

Tuesday, March 25

8:35 p.m. — A 23-year-old woman reported someone forced their way into her home on the 1500 block of Franklin Street. She was at home with her mother watching a 5-month old baby and a 5-year-old girl in the upstairs of the duplex. The woman went to her car to get her inhaler and upon returning to the lower level, saw what she thought was a man dressed in dark clothing coming out of one of the rooms. She ran upstairs and grabbed the babies and yelled for her mother to get out of the house and call police.

Thursday, March 27

7:29 a.m. — A 17-year-old boy was arrested for possession of marijuana on the 200 block of 17th Avenue South after his father found three bags containing marijuana belonging to his son. When confronted by his father, the boy threatened to hurt himself. Police also found cigarettes, a lighter and a smoking device.

11:15 a.m. — A supervisor at Marine Credit Union on East Main Street East reported a potential fraud incident. A 25-year-old man is suspected of fraudulently cashing $3,700 worth of checks from his girlfriend’s closed credit union account.

4:06 p.m. — A 60-year-old man reported someone with a BB gun had shot out a window of his house on the 500 block of Sand Lake Road. An interior window also had a hole, and the exterior siding and the window frame were damaged.

Friday, March 28

1:35 p.m. — A cashier for the Kwik Trip on the 400 block of Sand Lake Road reported gas-drive-off theft of $26.35 by a woman driving a car from a car dealership. Police suspect a 25-year-old woman.

3:53 p.m. — The merchandising manager of the Kwik Trip on the 400 block of Sand Lake Road reported the theft of a bag of beef jerky. A 15-year-old boy was seen concealing the bag of jerky before exiting the store without paying for it.

8:12 p.m. — A loss prevention specialist at Shopko in Onalaska reported he had apprehended a 17-year-old girl for retail theft. She had attempted to steal two boxes of Coricidin HBP Cough and Cold Tablets. When questioned by police, she indicated she was “tripping out” on Coricidin and didn’t know how much she had already taken. She was taken to Gundersen Lutheran for a possible overdose, but then released to police custody.

9:07 p.m. — Fourteen youths were cited for underage drinking when police arrived at an apartment on the 900 block of 12th Avenue South after receiving a noise complaint from the landlord.

Saturday, March 29

10:45 a.m. — A 26-year-old woman reported approximately $8,050 worth of jewelry was stolen from her car while parked behind the Beautanica Salon. She had removed her jewelry so she could get a tanning session and left it in the car. She said she had left her window open a crack and could not remember if she had locked the vehicle before the tanning session. When she came back out she noticed the jewelry was missing.

10:56 a.m. — A 76-year-old woman reported a $40 planter/lawn ornament was stolen from her yard on the 1200 block of Highway PH the previous night. A neighbor had seen a female teenager get out of a car and take it from the yard.

Sunday, March 30

2:46 p.m. — A 55-year-old man reported his car stolen. He discovered his son had stolen the car but didn’t know where it was. The son had attempted to sell the car but could not state who might have it.

Monday, March 24

11:12 a.m. — Police assisted an elderly man from the 800 block of Case Street to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center because he thought he was bleeding internally. He had recently had kidney failure.

8:07 p.m. — Police assisted a 78-year-old woman from the 200 block of Lee Street to Gundersen Clinic because she was having breathing problems.

Tuesday, March 25

10:54 a.m. — Police assisted the fire department responding to a fire alarm at the Holmen High School.

4:50 p.m. — A 27-year-old man was questioned after police received two phone calls stating the man had been staggering on the street near the 800 block of Starlite Drive. He said he fell down but did not need help.

9:58 p.m. — Police responded to a domestic incident on Manchester Lane. A woman reported she and her husband had argued earlier in the day and she had kicked him out of the house. He had returned to the house and taken her cell phone.

Wednesday, March 26

12:31 a.m. — A resident on the 600 block of Alpine Lane reported someone had run past his house through his yard, then noticed the neighbor’s motion lights go on. A person was on foot going southbound towards the park on Evergreen.

1:12 a.m. — Police assisted the fire department with a man on the 1300 block of Harvest Circle who was having trouble breathing.

4:46 p.m. — A person reported he had witnessed someone tossing fireworks out of a moving vehicle on Highway MH. He had seen someone from a vehicle with three juveniles throw the fireworks at his mother’s car just prior to the Highway 53 overpass. He had some of the fireworks when police arrived.

10:12 p.m. — Police assisted the Holmen Area Fire Department with a fire at Village Park. A tree was on fire.

Thursday, March 27

1:17 p.m. — Police assisted the fire department in responding to a call on the 1500 block of Sand Lake Road. Someone had reported a smell like burning rubber in a furnace room.

4:10 p.m. — Police assisted the fire department in responding to a call on the 6100 block of North Prairie Drive. The house was full of smoke, possibly from an oven problem.

5:06 p.m. — A 30-year-old woman reported a man had been following her. They had said “hi” to one another as they passed each other going opposite directions on the bridge. She walked a little way and turned around and he was right behind her. She ran and called police. No one was found. The man was wearing all black and a jacket that said something about a welding company.

Friday, March 28

10:08 a.m. — A 30-year-old La Crosse woman reported stolen property from her truck, which had been stolen and later involved in a police chase in which it was struck by a train. After the truck was destroyed by the train, it was towed to Paul’s Towing. When the woman came to collect items left in the vehicle, she reported several items missing that had been in the vehicle when police took pictures of it at the accident scene. Missing were several tow straps and two receiver hitches.

10:30 a.m. — A 13-year-old girl was bit on the lip by a dog in her home on the 1000 block of McHugh Road. Two Newfoundland dogs, a male and female, were in the living room with the girl. The female dog was in heat. The owner shot the dog.

12:32 p.m. — Police assisted an 81-year-old woman who was experiencing severe back pain. She was taken to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.

9:07 p.m. — Police assisted the Onalaska Police Department with an underage drinking party at an apartment on the 900 block of 12th Avenue South.

Saturday, March 29

12:16 a.m. — A 43-year-old man was given a verbal warning for loud stereo noise coming from his house on the 1600 block of Sand Lake Road.

3:47 p.m. — Two juveniles were given verbal warnings after someone reported they were shooting at things behind the Pizza Corral with a BB/air gun.

Tuesday, March 25

12:41 a.m. — First responder call on Court Road for a man who was unresponsive.

11:15 a.m. — First responder call on Wilson Street for a person who was vomiting.

12:19 p.m. — First responder call on Fourth Avenue North for a woman who was unresponsive.

4:37 p.m. — First responder call on Wilson Street for a person with shortness of breath.

Wednesday, March 26

6:34 a.m. — First responder call on 12th Avenue South for a person having chest pains.

4:31 p.m. — First responder call on Sand Lake Road for a person with an unknown medical condition.

8:47 p.m. — Fire and first responder call on State Road 16 and Theater Road for a vehicle accident with injuries.

Thursday, March 27

Noon — First responder call on Main Street for a person with a possible stroke.

5:37 p.m. — Fire call on Second Avenue North for odor or smoke removal.

9:35 p.m. — Fire call on Highway 16 for a gas leak.

10:33 p.m. — First responder call on Beverly Drive for a person involved in a fall.

Friday, March 28

2:29 a.m. — First responder call on Second Avenue North for a person having difficulty breathing.

5:28 p.m. — First responder call on Critter Court for an ill person.

6:37 p.m. — First responder call on Pierce Street for a person bleeding from the head.

Saturday, March 29

1:27 p.m. — First responder call on Oriole Lane for a person with a breathing problem.

Sunday, March 30

2:57 a.m. — First responder call on East Avenue North for a person with a breathing problem.

3:26 a.m. — Fire call on Smith Valley Road for a structure fire.

7:44 p.m. — First responder call on Sierra Place for a person involved in a fall.

Monday, March 31

11:21 a.m. — First responder call on Eighth Avenue North for a person who was unconscious.

7 p.m. — First responder call on the 100 block of Buckingham Lane for a person who was bleeding.

Monday, March 24

11:13 a.m. — First responder call on the 800 block of Case Street for a person who was ill.

8:07 p.m. — First responder call on the 200 block of Lee Street for a person with a breathing problem.

Tuesday, March 25

10:55 a.m. — Fire call on the 1000 block of McHugh Road for a heat detection activation.

Wednesday, March 26

1:13 a.m. — First responder call on the 1300 block of Harvest Place for a person with a breathing problem.

10:13 p.m. — Fire call on the 400 block of First Avenue West for a fire in the woods.

Thursday, March 27

1:19 p.m. — Fire call on the 1500 block of Sand Lake Road for an electrical fire.

4:10 p.m. — Fire call on the 6000 block of North Prairie Drive for smoke or odor removal.

4:39 p.m. — First responder call on the 1300 block of Harvest Circle Drive for a person who was ill.

Friday, March 28

7:03 a.m. — First responder call on the 1700 block of Viking Avenue for a person with a leg injury.

10:36 a.m. — First responder call on the 1200 block of Eastwood Street for a person injured in a fall.

12:33 p.m. — First responder call on the 3000 block of Heritage Lane for a person with back pain.

1:29 p.m. — First responder call on the 3100 block of Cedar Avenue South for a person experiencing chest pains.
