The 2008 dance will be held 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday, April 19, at the Onalaska OmniCenter.
Onalaska residents have received $5 tickets in the mail, and can pay for the ticket ahead of time or at the door. Those who have not received tickets are welcome to just come and contribute a $5 donation at the door.
“This is our second year at the OmniCenter, but this is new to have it on Saturday,” said Karl Goldbeck, vice president of the Onalaska Firefighters Association. “We would love to double our attendance. The more the merrier. And at the OmniCenter, we’ll have plenty of room.”
The OmniCenter will have a high percentage of certified lifesavers on hand Saturday, as not only will Onalaska firefighters be there, so will firefighters from other communities.
“We support all the other fire departments and they come to support us,” Goldbeck said. “It’s just a way to continue the brotherhood and share the camaraderie.”
Goldbeck said attendance last year was between 500 and 600. “Some people support us by just buying tickets, but they might not be able to come to the dance.”
Because the dance is the major fundraiser for the year, the goal is to raise $10,000 with higher attendance so they can purchase life-saving equipment.
A live band, Troubleshooter, will play all evening and there will be free soda for designated drivers, a cash bar and a Chinese raffle using items donated from Del’s Auto Repair, Festival Foods and other businesses.
Everyone who attends has a chance to win a cash door prize. Two $100 prizes and six $50 prizes will be awarded.
“This is our way of thanking everyone for their support during the year,” Goldbeck said.
