Published - Wednesday, April 23, 2008 Police and fire calls The following log is based on reports from the Holmen and Onalaska police and fire departments. Onalaska police Wednesday, April 2 10:31 p.m. — A 41-year-old man was arrested for hit and run after rear-ending a vehicle on the 700 block of Second Avenue South. He had been driving his mother’s car when he rear-ended a vehicle driven by a 32-year-old La Crosse woman, pulled around her car and fled. He said he had dropped his cigarette between his legs and tried to retrieve it when he struck the other vehicle. He fled because he was driving without a license. Tuesday, April 8 3:29 p.m. — A 57-year-old La Crosse man reported his cell phone stolen from his vehicle while it was parked near the Shepherd’s Voice bookstore. The phone was attached to the charger, but the charger was still in the vehicle. Wednesday, April 9 2:11 p.m. — The owner of Clafton Skate on Main Street reported someone had cut off the lock to the trailer behind the building and removed the registration stickers. 2:58 p.m. — A 23-year-old woman on the 200 block of 17th Avenue North reported someone had written four forged checks from her checking account. All the checks were written to area Kwik Trip stores between March 26 and April 3. 9:33 p.m. — A 34-year-old woman reported her coat had been stolen from an unlocked locker at the Onalaska YMCA. The coat had her cell phone and keys in it. Thursday, April 10 9 a.m. — A 30-year-old man reported receiving harassing phone calls at his home in La Crosse. He believes the caller is a student at Onalaska Middle School. 6 p.m. — A 28-year-old man reported two satellite dishes and a metal fire pit cover were stolen from his yard on the 300 block of Fourth Street South. He believed they were taken for scrap value. Friday, April 11 12:12 p.m. — A Kwik Trip employee reported a gas drive-off of $38 at the store on Highway 16. Saturday, April 12 8:30 a.m. — A 19-year-old La Crosse man was arrested at the Onalaska Inn on an outstanding warrant. He was found with marijuana, drug paraphernalia and Schedule IV narcotics (Alprazolam) for which he did not have a prescription. While he was in the police vehicle, he spit on the rear window and was also cited for “depositing a deleterious substance” for which $8.35 will be added to restitution charges. 11:28 p.m. — A 17-year-old girl was arrested for criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct after she broke a window and threatened occupants of a residence on the 600 block of Fourth Avenue North. She had been drinking and went to the apartment to collect on a debt. She brought two men with her who also threatened the residents. They were later stopped for a traffic violation and were recognized as suspects in the former incident and were cited for disorderly conduct. Sunday, April 13 7 p.m. — A 14-year-old boy reported his iPod was stolen while he was at the skate park on the 900 block of Park Drive. He suspected another person at the park at the time. Police tracked down the other person, an 18-year-old La Crosse man, who first denied, then admitted taking the iPod and turned it over to police. Holmen police Tuesday, April 8 7:38 a.m. — A 57-year-old woman was given a verbal warning due to her dogs’ barking on the 400 block of Long Coulee Road. The caller had complained the dog had been outside barking since 6:30 a.m. 8:33 a.m. — A man reported someone had slashed a tire on his vehicle overnight on the 1500 block of Viking Drive. 1:29 p.m. — A 17-year-old boy was cited for disorderly conduct when he attacked his brother at Holmen High School. He said he thought his brother was flirting with his girlfriend. 5:27 p.m. — Police responded to a caller on the 200 block of Cedar Lane who said smoke was filling the house. Wednesday, April 9 8:41 a.m. — A Hilltopper Refuse and Recycling employee reported a woman taking aluminum cans from the recycling bin in front of 12 Commerce Street. When she saw him watching, she left quickly. A 47-year-old female was identified and given a verbal warning. She said she had taken cans from several houses but didn’t know she couldn’t take them. 12:04 p.m. — Two boys were cited for disorderly conduct at the Family and Children’s Center. The 12-year-old had pushed an 11-year-old boy who fell and hit his head on a table. 3:40 p.m. — Police responded to a call on West Maple Drive for a group of young teens who were fighting. The caller said one of the teens was on the ground. When questioned, the youths said they were playing. 4:54 p.m. — An 11-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy were cited for theft for stealing a bike at Viking Elementary. They broke the chain of the bike. The mother of the victim saw one of the boys riding around on the bike. The 11-year-old was also cited for obstructing because he lied about who helped him steal the bike. Thursday, April 10 10:44 a.m. — A resident on the 400 block of Kimberly Street reported the door to his neighbor’s home was wide open and the owner was away. No one was found and the house was secured. 3:58 p.m. — A 16-year-old received five truancy citations for absenteeism from the high school. 9:37 p.m. — Police found the door open and lights on in a newly constructed house on the 800 block of Timberwood Lane. Wednesday, April 9 2:11 a.m. — First responder call on 13th Avenue North for a person with a breathing problem. 4:15 p.m. — First responder call on Terrace Drive for a person with a breathing problem. 5:06 p.m. — Fire call on Mason Street for a false alarm. 10:40 p.m. — Fire call on Sixth Avenue North for a carbon monoxide incident. Thursday, April 10 6:06 p.m. — First responder call on Second Avenue South for a possible overdose. 6:38 p.m. — Fire call on Eighth Avenue South for a downed power line. Friday, April 11 2:48 a.m. — First responder call on Oak Forest Drive for a person having an allergic reaction. 9:03 a.m. — First responder call on Main Street for a person having chest pains. Saturday, April 12 2:11 a.m. — First responder call on Second Avenue South for a person who was assaulted. 10:28 a.m. — Fire call on Market Place for a gas leak. 12:05 p.m. — First responder call on 17th Avenue South for a person who was unconscious. 10:31 p.m. — First responder call on Cheyenne Drive for a person having chest pains. Sunday, April 13 12:12 a.m. — First responder call on Main Street for a person with cuts on the wrist and arm. 10:01 a.m. — First responder call on Kristy Lane for a person with a breathing problem. 11:40 a.m. — First responder call on Monica Lane for a person with an unknown medical problem. 1:12 p.m. — First responder call on Canary Lane for a person injured in a fall. 2:43 p.m. — First responder call on Oak Avenue South for a person having chest pains. 9:10 p.m. — First responder call on Lauderdale Place for a person possibly having a heart attack. Monday, April 14 1 a.m. — First responder call on Sixth Avenue North for an alcohol-related problem. 4:31 p.m. — First responder call on Main Street and Second Avenue North for a vehicle accident with injuries. 6:20 p.m. — Fire call on Second Avenue North for accidental fire suppression system activation. 6:28 p.m. — Fire call on Superior Street for unauthorized burning. 7:40 p.m. — First responder call on Hauser Road for a person injured in a fall. 8:11 p.m. — Fire call on Highway 35 for an outside rubbish fire. Wednesday, April 9 3:40 a.m. — First responder call on the 5800 block of North Lakeview Court East for a person with back pain. 10:26 a.m. — First responder call on the 6900 block of Walden Place West for a person with an unknown medical problem. Thursday, April 10 9:10 a.m. — Fire call on the 3600 block of Sand Lake Road for a steam or other gas leak. Friday, April 11 1:50 a.m. — First responder call on the 200 block of Neitzel Drive for a person who had possibly overdosed. Saturday, April 12 7 a.m. — First responder call on the 6600 block of Highway M for a vehicle accident with injuries. 9:34 a.m. — First responder call on the 800 block of Cherry Lane South for a person with a leg injury. 11:22 a.m. — Fire call on the 7700 block of North Amsterdam Prairie Road for a controlled burn.
