Arthur Art’ L. Stello
MINDORO Arthur “Art” L. Stello, 80, of Mindoro died peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Community Care Center in La Crosse, with his beloved wife at his side.
He was born April 18, 1928, in the township of Bangor, Wis., to Fred H. and Josephine (Anderson) Stello. Art was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bangor. On June 1, 1954, he was united in marriage with Marleen Thielker at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Barre Mills.
Art was engaged in farming for the duration of his lifetime and respected all aspects of agriculture. He loved taking rides to check out the progress of the growing crops. Art enjoyed socializing and talking to people about any topic. His nature was to be witty and humorous with others. Art had a strong will to live and a determination to live his life to the fullest. He appreciated what each day had to offer and this was passed on to others he came in contact with. His character inspired many.
Art was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Burr Oak, Wis., where he served on the church school board for many years. He was involved in many community organizations, including La Crosse County Holstein Breeders, Farm Bureau, Pork Producers, Farmer’s Co-op Board, and 4-H Adult Leaders for 36 years in dairy and field crops. He was also a member of the Mindoro Lions Club where he was named “Lion of the Year” in 1998.
Art is survived by Marleen, his wife of 53 years; their five children, Arlan (Carmen) of Mindoro, Marla of La Crosse, Lynette (Merle) Storlie of La Crosse, Brent (Heather) of Mindoro and Ryan of Madison; three grandchildren, Tyler and Stephanie Stello and Ann Storlie; one expectant grandchild; and many other relatives and friends that deeply cared for him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Edwin Jandt.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 2, at 11 a.m. at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, County Roads C & A, Burr Oak. Pastor John Werner will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at Jandt Funeral Home, Hwy. 162 and Hattan St., Bangor, on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m., and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be given to the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation or Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Burr Oak.
Larry Lee McCumber
HOLMEN Larry McCumber, 63, passed away April 27, 2008, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Center, La Crosse.
He was born Dec. 28, 1944, in Richland Center, Wis., to Oliver and Mildred (Shell) McCumber. Larry married Linda Waller on Jan. 28, 1967.
Larry is survived by Linda; two children, Jason McCumber and Lona (Vance) VanKirk; three grandchildren, Emily, Renee and Peter VanKirk; three brothers, Neil (Nancy), Wayne and Richard McCumber; special lifelong friends, Douglas and Karen Miller, and their daughters Lori, Michelle and Jennifer; many special nieces and nephews; and extended family.
Larry served in the Army and was a machinist by trade, being self-employed for many years. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, family and many friends. He enjoyed fishing, cooking and playing cards. He appreciated music and played guitar for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Marlin and Darwin McCumber.
Graveside services will be held at Onalaska Cemetery on Saturday, May 3, at 1 p.m. Fran Browning FSPA pastoral care coordinator, will officiate. Dickinson Family Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Arlene Conger
HOLMEN Arlene Conger, 76, of Holmen died in her home Wednesday, April 30, 2008. Private family services will be at Dickinson Family Funeral Home, Holmen. A complete obituary will follow.
Arlene A. Adams
LA CROSSE -- Arlene A. Adams, 84, of La Crosse died on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.
She was born in La Crosse on Feb. 14, 1924, to Otto and Emelia (Wensole) Jacobson. Arlene was a graduate of Central High School and had worked at the Rubber Mills for many years. She married Gregory J. Adams on Aug. 9, 1958, in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 1999.
Arlene was a lifelong member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She also was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching local sports and the Packers and Brewers and was a very loving grandma to Kasey.
She is survived by her son, Jay (Kelly) Adams of Onalaska; her grandson, Kasey Gregory Adams; a sister-in-law, Aileen Sherman; a brother-in-law, Rod (Diane) Adams; and nieces and nephews, Jim (Maureen) Jacobson and their sons Bjorn and Kevin, Peggy Simmonds and her daughters, Heather (Steve) Moyer and Courtney (Brian) McKeon, and Diane (Rob) Reinhart and their sons, Andrew and Austin. In addition to her husband, Greg, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Jacobson.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2008, at noon at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Pastor Mark Jolivette will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials may be given to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater La Crosse. Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse is in charge of arrangements.
