Thoughts of Hawaii, Mexico, Green Bay Packers, John Deere tractors, birthday and garden parties all came to mind April 14 as 14 La Crosse County 4-H members displayed their nutritional and creative snacks or menu items for judging at the annual 4-H Favorite Foods Revue.

4-H Members enrolled in the Cloverbud project (grades K-2) talked to foods judge Sue Schultz about the simple snack they made. Exploring project members (grades 3-4) prepared an after-school snack.

Foods 1 and Foods 2 project members made a favorite meal item accompanied by the recipe and a menu plan. Nutrition and the members’ knowledge of the MyPyramid chart and how it relates to their food item was a key discussion point for the judge.

Proper table-setting technique and the attractiveness of the table provided extra points in the scoring of the projects.

Cake Decorating 1 project members displayed their creative talents with attractively decorated cakes.

Schultz gave individual comments to each 4-H member about their food item and display.

Blue Ribbons were awarded to Kaitlyn Sutton (Exploring), Matthew Brennan and Erika Mueller (Foods 1), Elizabeth Brennan and Lauren Sutton (Foods 2), Kathyrn Hoffland and Hanna Mueller (Cake Decorating 1).

Red Ribbons were awarded to Tiana Dixon (Foods 2) and Makaela Brown (Cake Decorating 1).

Cloverbuds, Jeremy Anderson, Sierra Dixon, Eli Hemker, and Elizabeth Sutton, all received participation ribbons.

Merit Award Winners included Elizabeth Sutton, Kaitlyn Sutton, Elizabeth Brennan and Hannah Mueller.

Participants and the audience also voted for the People’s Choice Awards, which included the following:

  • Most Nutritional: Elizabeth Sutton and Tiana Dixon

  • Most Creative: Elizabeth Sutton and Hanna Mueller

  • Best Overall: Kaitlyn Sutton and Elizabeth Brennan
