OHS bands to give final concert May 12

Onalaska High School’s bands will present their final concert of the year on Monday, May 12, beginning at 7:30 p.m. This concert is dedicated to and recognizes the graduating senior band members.

Concert highlights include the OHS Concert Band, under the direction of Jim Knutson, playing two movements from Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” and a medley from “Dreamgirls.”

Knutson’s Jazz Band will feature soloist Caty Hoppens on “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” Other jazz band selections are Chick Corea’s “Spain” and Gershwin’s “Strike Up the Band.”

Jazz Band seniors in their final performance include Ben Christenson, Kyle Edmunds, Ross Evanson and Dustin Hackworth.

The OHS Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dawson Strutt, will feature a piece called “Rhythm Dance” in which the rhythm motif unifies the music rather than a traditional melody. Swings tunes and a medley from “Pirates of the Caribbean” are also included.

A reception for audience and band members follows the concert.
