Dalton Brothers Trio to perform May 23
The Dalton Brothers Trio will perform from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday, May 23, at the City Brewery Hospitality Cneter, 111 Third St. S., La Crosse.
Led by Santa Fe, N.M., jazz pianist Bert Dalton, the group includes Bert’s brother Larry Dalton of Onalaska on bass and drummer Rich MacDonald of Winona, Minn.
In a career of 30 plus years, Bert Dalton has performed with Herbie Mann, Anita O’Day, Regina Carter, Butch Miles, Ira Sullivan, Paul Wertico, Bud Shank, John Clayton, Jeff Hamilton and many others. His Latin jazz quartet Yoboso won the 1995 B.E.T Jazz Discovery Competition, was twice awarded Best Recording of the Year by the New Mexico Music Industry Coalition, and reached top 10 airplay in Miami.
Originally from the Chicago area, Bert has toured extensively throughout the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as three tours of Australia and New Zealand, most recently headlining the Manly International Jazz Festival, Australia’s largest.

Gary Sinise coming for June 7 show
Emmy Award-winning actor Gary Sinise and his Lt. Dan Band will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex as part of the Veterans Memorial Ride.
The Remainders will open at 7 p.m., and a program will begin at 6 p.m.
Tickets are $25 for general admission, $45 for preferred seating in the grandstand and $125 for VIP seating and parking. To purchase tickets, go to the event Web site at www.vetsride.com and click on the Ticketmaster logo.
This concert will be the last event in the stadium before it is torn down to make way for a new stadium.
Sinese plays bass in the band, which focuses on classic rock and R&B covers.
Sinise’s concert is part of the Veterans Memorial Ride, which will include thousands of motorcycle riders who will converge on La Crosse, gathering first at the National Guard Armory in Onalaska, at 3:30 p.m., leaving there at 4:30 p.m. led by former Gov. Tommy Thompson, and arriving at the field at 5 p.m.
Sinise, who stars in “CSI: New York” and played the part of Lt. Dan in “Forrest Gump,” is a long-time veterans advocate. This ride and Sinise’s concert will be the kickoff for what is to become an annual fund-raising event in La Crosse to raise money for the Hall of Honor for Veterans at UW-L.
Audubon meeting to feature storytellers
The Coulee Region Audubon Society May program will be presented by Ken and Terry Visger on Wednesday, May 21, starting at 7 p.m. at the Ho Chunk building at Eighth and Main streets in La Crosse.
Terry will act out a story about a clammer’s wife in the early 1900’s. She is a professional storyteller, founder of the Bluff Country Storytelling Guild and actively involved the the La Crosse Storytelling Festival held each fall. Her story will depict the multi-million-dollar clamming industry on the Upper Mississippi.
Ken is a self-described “old river rat with a passion for preserving what we have left of our great Upper Mississippi River resources.” He will talk about the threat to native mussels and the life cycle of mussels.
The meeting is free and open to all.
Zetus Deamos plans all-ages concert
Local rock band Zetus Deamos will give an all-ages concert starting at 7 p.m. Friday, May 23, at the Coalition Skate Park, 215 State St. in downtown La Crosse.
The band formed in 2005 when West Salem High School students Erik Williams and Jake and Zac Barbieur hooked up with Mike Ganrude of La Crescent, Minn.
Last year, the band independently released its first full-length studio CD, “With a Vengeance,” and has been playing big-city dates in Milwaukee, Madison and the Twin Cities as well as shows in smaller towns around Wisconsin.
The band, which has a hard rock sound influenced by AC/DC, Alice in Chains and other ’80s stalwarts, has opened for Buckcherry, Hellyeah, Chevelle, Billy Idol, Airbourne, Black Stone Cherry, Endeverafter, Operator, Black Label Society and L.A. Guns

McGilvray bridges walking tour planned
A walking tour of the historic McGilvray Road bridges in the Van Loon Wildlife Area north of Holmen is planned for Sunday, May 18.
The tour will be conducted by Mariel Carlisle, and participants should meet at the McGilvray Bridges parking lot on Amsterdam Prairie Road at 1 p.m.

HCT plans auditions for ‘The Nerd’
The Holmen Community Theatre will stage Larry Shue’s popular comedy, “The Nerd,” this summer, and auditions are planned for May 27-28. Parts are available for four men, one boy (roughly 10 years old) and two women. Auditions start at 7 p.m. each night at Holmen High School, with possible call-backs on May 29. Potential actors are asked to bring a calendar with possible conflicts with the rehearsal schedule.
Area theater veteran Brad Williams will direct “The Nerd,” which follows the comedic results when a former soldier finally meets the man who saved his life, the man he has vowed to do anything for, and he turns out to be a hopeless nerd.

Genealogy group plans cemetery session
The La Crosse Area Genealogical Society will meet Tuesday, May 27, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery, 1407 La Crosse St.
This will be a working session — taking digital photographs, verifying information from the stones and cleaning gravestones. Participants should bring a bag lunch, digital camera, clipboard for writing on and a kneeling pad.

Holmen Area Foundation plans annual golf event
Golfers interested in playing for a good cause are invited to participate in the eighth annual 18 Holes for Holmen golf outing planned for Wednesday, June 11, starting at 12:30 p.m. at Drugan’s Castle Mound Country Club north of Holmen.
The event is sponsored by the Holmen Area Foundation and the Holmen High School activities department, which will share the proceeds. Other major sponsors include Firefighters Credit Union and HSR Associates Inc.
The Holmen Area Foundation is a tax-exempt public charity primarily supporting education along with scientific, literary, recreational, artistic and civic efforts in the Holmen community.
The four-person scramble will feature a shotgun start, with hole prizes in addition to the $5,000 cash prize for a hole-in-one. A silent auction also is planned.
Cost per player is $60, of which $30 is tax deductible. Flyers with more information about the event are available at area businesses and at Holmen schools.

Fort McCoy fish contest runs to Sept. 1
Pine View Recreation Area Campground at Fort McCoy will host its annual fishing contest through Sept. 1.
The contest is open to the public. All fish must be caught in Fort McCoy waters, registered at the campgrounds office, building 8053, within 24 hours and can't be frozen.
Anglers must follow all applicable Fort McCoy and state regulations and possess state of Wisconsin and Fort McCoy fishing licenses/permits. Personnel can purchase all of these items at the Pine View Campgrounds office.
Participants in the Fort McCoy fishing contest can enter fish in one of six categories: largemouth bass, rainbow trout, crappie, catfish, bullhead and bluegill. Prizes will be awarded by weight and limited to one per person. A first- and second-place prize will be awarded in each category.

Annual biggest baby shower set for June 8
Franciscan Skemp’s seventh annual Biggest Baby Shower EVER will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 8, in the employee parking ramp on 10th Street between Market and Ferry streets. The shower is co-sponsored by Magic 105.
In addition to informational displays by Franciscan Skemp, participants can shop local vendors, win prizes and enjoy refreshments and children’s activities. Infant car seat checks will be available on a limited basis.
Scorpions coming to Fort McCoy
The Army Concert Tour has announced a new feature act, the Scorpions, to headline a Saturday, Aug. 9, performance at Fort McCoy. Other acts still are being sought. Ticket pricing and more information will follow soon.
The Scorpions, a German hard rock band, are best known for their 1984 anthem “Rock You Like a Hurricane” and the 1990 ballad “Wind of Change.”
