Linda and Brad Mills of Onalaska will attempt to defend their Wisconsin Women's State Golf Association state mother-son title Wednesday at Maple Bluff Country Club in Madison.
Under the event's modified alternate shot format, both players hit tee balls, with the player whose drive isn't used hitting the second shot, with the players alternating on the remaining shots.
The Mills' carded a tournament-record 1-under-par 71 in last year's event at Mascoutin Golf Club in Berlin. The Mills' finished one spot ahead of Lee and Scott Kelly, the mother and brother of PGA Tour player Jerry Kelly.
Lee and Jerry Kelly combined to win the tournament in 1986. Lee and Scott Kelly won the tournament in 2006. La Crosse's Pauline and Paul Connell won the tournament in 1994.
Linda Mills has won five Three Rivers Golf Association women's championship flight titles this summer. Brad Mills will defend his La Crosse Country Club club championship later this summer.
Linda Mills is the longtime girls and boys golf coach at Onalaska and a member of the Wisconsin High School Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Brad Mills was a member of Onalaska's state championship golf teams in 1982 and 1985 and a member of the state golf runner-up in 1983, while also a starter on Onalaska's state boys basketball semifinalist in 1983.
