Onalaska's entry finished 2-3 at last weekend's 24th annual Onalaska High School Boys Basketball Booster Club John Shelton Memorial Midwest Summer Basketball Classic.

Onalaska went 1-2 in its pool, earning a win over La Crescent, before falling to Holmen and Westby. New Hilltoppers head coach Craig Kowal said Eric Lavery and Nick Arenz played well offensively Saturday, including Lavery hitting three mid-range shots in the win over La Crescent.

Tyler Adams played well in the opener, Kowal said, but struggled with Holmen's pressure in Onalaska's second game. Kowal used his fifth and final summer contact day to coach Saturday's three games.

The Hilltoppers earned their second win in Sunday's elimination portion of the tournament over Central. Onalaska lost its final game in a rematch with Westby. Chris Hohmann hit three jumpers in Sunday's two games, Kowal said.

Aquinas defeated Holmen in the tournament championship game. Hillsboro defeated Potosi in the small-school championship game.

“I've been very pleased with our commitment,” Kowal said. “Our players have worked very hard this summer.”
