Andy Mills earned the win, while Kyle Stewart earned the save, as the Onalaska American Legion baseball team advanced to the Class AA state tournament championship game with a 2-1 win over Merrill in Merrill Monday afternoon.

Onalaska (29-5) extended a 1-0 lead to 2-0 on a successful Brandon Rude suicide squeeze in the bottom of the sixth. Merrill put the tying runs on base in the top of the seventh, before Stewart induced a double-play ground ball.

Merrill also put their next two runners on base to get the tying run into scoring position, before Stewart notched a swinging strikeout on a low fastball for the final out. Mills pitched the first 5 1/3 innings, before being relieved by Stewart after putting the go-ahead runs on base in the sixth.

With the win, Onalaska earns a spot in tomorrow's championship game. In the double-elimination format, Onalaska also plays another game tonight at 8 p.m., against Kaukauna, whom they led 10-1 entering the bottom of the seventh in Friday's opening round, before hanging on for a 10-9 win.

If Onalaska wins the 8 p.m. game, the championship game will be played at 5 p.m. Tuesday, against the winner of today's 5 p.m. game between Beaver Dam and Merrill. The winner of the 5 p.m. game would have to beat Onalaska twice to win the title.

If Onalaska loses the 8 p.m. game, the championship game will be played at 8 p.m. Tuesday, against the winner of a 5 p.m. Tuesday game between the Beaver Dam-Merrill winner and Kaukauna. Onalaska defeated Beaver Dam 6-5 in a winner's bracket semifinal Saturday.
