MERRILL, Wis. — A hit batter with the bases loaded in the seventh inning gave Kaukauna a 4-3 victory over Onalaska Monday night at the Class AA state tournament. It was Onalaska’s first loss in the double-elimination tournament, so it will still play in the championship game at 8 p.m. today. Onalaska (29-6) plays either Kaukauna (27-5) or Merrill (20-10) in that game.

Onalaska advanced to Monday night’s game with a 2-1 victory over Merrill earlier in the day.

Pinch-hitter Brandon Rude produced the winning run with a successful squeeze bunt to score Jerry Rank in the bottom of the sixth inning.

James Knutson brought home Rank for a second-inning run with a groundout.

Wisconsin Class A: Viroqua trailed Clintonville 2-1 in the middle of the second inning before rain wiped out the rest of Monday’s game.

The teams will continue their game in Brownsville, Wis., at 11 a.m. today.
