Bryan Erdmann, the head coach for the Onalaska-Holmen boys swimming program since its inception in 2006, has left the program.
Erdmann, who helped Zac Hanson become the program's first Division 1 state qualifier last February, swam collegiately at UW-Milwaukee. Erdmann swam in high school at Central.
“This decision was not made in haste, and was not done without putting many, many hours of thought in my decision,” Erdmann said.
“As I reflected back over the past two years, I have nothing but great memories. I have seen us go from a first-year program that struggled mightily to compete and simply fill each of the events in all meets to a second-year program that was very competitive.”
Erdmann cited his two young children as his main reason for leaving the program.
“The time that was required for my full-time job, coupled with the time and energy rquired for coaching, unfortunately was done at the expense of the time needed with my wife and two young children,” Erdmann said. “They are only young once, and they, along with my wife, truly are and need to be my top priority.”
Erdmann said he and Holmen AD Linzi Gronning did consider Erdmann staying on in a part-time role, a role Erdmann dismissed.
“As I thought that option through, I quickly came to the conclusion that the coach needs to be 100 percent committed and present,” Erdmann said. “That was something that I did not think I could accommodate.”
