With no admission charge and no buttons required, it’s a weekend of family-oriented fun with lots of onstage shows, crafts, flea market, concessions and more.
The event opens Friday with a flag ceremony at 6 p.m. and pork sandwiches for $1. Studebaker 7 will provide jumping and dancing music is Friday night from 7:30 to 11:30.
On Saturday, there will be events all day long with live music from the Pinsetters Saturday night. On Sunday, the chickencue and other concessions will satisfy the appetites through the Texas Hold ’em tournament in the afternoon. Jim B Three will perform Sunday, and there will be karaoke opportunities for everyone.
This is the third year for the event, which got its start after the new Legion facilities were built.
“The driving force (for the Community Days) was to show off the facility,” said Mike Fries, chairman of the Legion Community Days committee. “We formed a committee about four years ago and decided our Legion is a nice facility and why not do some sort of event for the community. There were a lot of people that didn’t realize we had the club rooms we had and the baseball fields. So we thought hosting a community event would be a great way to let everyone know what we had available.”
Legion Post 336, the Auxiliary and the Legion baseball team all benefit from the event. The Legion uses money for funding various needs for veterans. It also uses the funds for the Badger Boys organization, scholarships and other needs.
The baseball team — which won the Class AA Champions this year, Fries wants to remind everyone — uses the funds to help pay for tournament entry fees, transportation to and from games, equipment, insurance and other expenses. The Auxiliary pays for expenses and projects similar to the Legion. A portion of the proceeds also goes to funding the following year’s event.
From year one to year two, the event tripled, according to Fries. “Obviously, we don’t expect to be that high this year,” he said. “But we hope to increase our revenue by 30 percent or 40 percent. It’s a great weekend to save on gas money. Stay home and come on out to the Legion and have a great time.”
